These handmade, Murano Glass Tiles, are 4 1/4 x 4 1/4 inches; popularly called 4x4, standard American tile size. Each tile has a cobalt blue background, gold foil, seaweed, coral and fish, surrounded by colorful Millefiori cane pieces. Each tile is unique, and therefore the artist may change the color of the fish. Click on the picture to see a larger version. These beautiful, Murano, Art Glass Tiles, can be used for display, for decorating purposes in the home or office; or for practical decorative purposes, to add that designer tough to your bath, pool, or kitchen. The Art Glass Tiles are made entirely by hand, by Murano glass artists. Here is a simplified version of how they are made: First, they delicately make the fish, coral branches, greenery, etc., by hand, and set them aside. Next, the top and bottom pieces of the tiles, are cut from flat plate glass. The bottom piece is then covered with gold (or silver) foil, and the fish, coral, etc., are arranged onto the gold foil. Finally, the top piece, with the Murrini pieces (Millefiori), is set, and the whole "sandwich" is fused in an oven; and hence, "a tile is born".
